07/10/04 The falls look stunning and the dense tree canopy increases daily.

 

07/10/04  Luscious tropical plants thrive in the  Humid Tropics Biome

  

07/10/04 Steel pipes are being drilled in around the area where the mast will be erected, I believe the mast has something to do with supporting the roof of the Ice Rink.

 

07/10/04 More wooden beams arrive for the roof of the ERC as construction continues.

 

04/10/04 A very pink day at Eden, 'Breast Cancer Awareness Day'

 

04/10/04 Pink Helium balloons in the HTB & WTB and even the biomes pictured here from half a mile away in my friends garden were pink throughout the evening.  October is Breast

Cancer Awareness Month. The 4th annual Global Landmarks Illumination Initiative will continue the tradition of raising awareness by bathing world famous sites in pink light     worldwide.          ESTÉE LAUDER               www.bcrfcure.org

 

04/10/04 Work is progressing on the ERC as more wooden beams are fitted.

 

04/10/04 Lighting cable being dug in all around the site and in areas that were previously unlit, most of  the work is carried out before the visitors arrive and during the night.

 

30/09/04 Late September, a lovely month to enjoy Eden.

 

30/09/04 Eden has something for everyone on the last day in September.

 

30/09/04 A myriad of colours in Jill's vegetable garden.

 

30/09/04 Squash 'Cucerbitaceae' and Swedes by the barrow load from the vegetable garden.

 

30/09/04 Large pipes being dug in between the lake and the biomes, maybe to carry water or even cabling.  If there's digging going on  'Dublin's' got to be in the middle of it.

 

30/09/04 A crushed rock wall being constructed where the land train shelter was originally built.  This may form the outer wall of the skating rink.

 

30/09/04 Steel rods being drilled deep into the ground at the edge of the lake, part of the supporting structure of the covered skating rink.

 

30/09/04 Work up to date on the staff building, the roof beams are now being fitted, Heavy electricity cables being laid along the Grand Steps,  may be to illuminate the trees on the way down to the Ice rink?

 

30/09/04 ERC update: More wooden roof beams are being fitted and the first floor is under construction.

 

 28/09/04  Chocolate for The Friends of Eden" who are seen here giving their full attention to tasting the assortment of chocolates whilst listening to an enlightening talk about the production process presented by Sarah Jane Staines.     The Chocolate Trading Co

23/09/04 The Lake is being prepared for the erection of the ice skating rink.

 

23/09/04 E.R.C. build update, lorry loads of steel supports arrive, not unlike those used in the Biomes and the Link Building.

 

21/09/04 Dahlias and Biomes.      Harvesting huge onions in the Eden vegetable garden.

 

21/09/04 In the WTB the Bougainville is looking good and the grapes are ripe for picking.

 

21/09/04 Building update on the Education Resources Centre - overall and ground level view.

   

21/09/04 The ice rink site is being cleared, large concrete rings are going into place, believed to be foundation pads for the ice rink structure, which will be suspended over the lake and much of the surrounding areas. It's going to be big enough to take 300 or more skaters at one time.   

 

21/09/04 The staff facilities build update.   Carnations and onions, an unusual combination!

 

21/09/04 Harvesting wheat (carefully) as it's probably wanted for display purposes.  Tree fern pathway view. 

 

21/09/04 Part of the amazing tree net for exploring a rain forest canopy.  HTB falls showing lush growth and a strong flow of water.

 

21/09/04 New bent wood & glass info signs in the HTB, weatherproof and unusual but not too easy to read,  mind you I need glasses anyway.   A tranquil spot to sit and sketch.

 

17/09/04 Evening visit for a Canopy dinner in the Link Building.  Picture on the left, a work update on the Education Resource Centre. The performing Plumed Basilisk Lizards (below)

 

17/09/04 Colobus Monkeys in the bamboo house and then bungee jumping from the top of the biome, not only does that takes a bit of doing, it's jolly difficult to photograph.

 

17/09/04 Shield Bugs are the largest species in the tropical forest canopies. Tim Smit and Sue Hill talking to some Eden friends.

 

17/09/04 The Eden Catering Team ready to serve about 250 dinners, main course being Butterfly fillet of wild bore. Tim talking to Keith, our musical entertainment for the evening.

17/09/04 The presentation by Andrew Mitchell on the importance and the biodiversity of the rain forest, was extremely thought provoking. A good evening, thank you to every one.
