Plants for Rope and Fibre
The need to pull, haul, lift, hoist or bind has been with mankind since the beginning of civilisation, in all cultures around the world. To do this people have made cordage: cloth and ropes, mainly from the strong fibers of a wide range of plants. Without rope we might never have erected the pyramids, Stonehenge or the Aztec dwellings in Mexico, let alone tied up the runner beans.
'Rope is kinetic tension: it buzzes and whines with energy,
it vibrates and sings with pure mathematical harmony'
